south san gabriel “all night long” from eyas split w/ centro-matic
lionel richie’s dancing on the ceiling was one of my first cassettes (i think i got it either right before or at the same time as the whitesnake cassette) and i’m proud to say that i still pull out lionel richie on a regular basis (which i can’t really say for whitesnake).
south san gabriel’s recent take on “all night long” (from richie’s previous album can’t slow down) slows the track down even further as will johnson laconically invites you to party with him down south.
down south has never been far away from lionel richie, despite his commonly being linked to motown. he was born in alabama and on “deep river woman” (from dancing on the ceiling) he had the band of the same name join him to bring a little south to the motown studios (presumably in l.a. by this time).
i hope that south san gabriel is using this song for their encore - it’s entirely unexpected but entirely of a piece with their work. i can image it being the sort of thing that immediately turns up a show several notches. if not, at least it’s the perfect way to end their new split ep eyas.
“all night long” can be found on the new self-released, digital split EP eyas between centro-matic and south san gabriel, available for purchase in MP3 and WAV at www.centro-matic.com.
ps - props to the band for offering full quality WAV files, but FLACs would serve the same purpose with a smaller file size and tagging. FLAC forever!
