east river pipe’s new album, we live in rented rooms, just came out and i played this track on the latest show after picking it in my usual “okay, this resonates after 30 seconds” fashion.
at the time i mentioned relating to the song due to work frustrations (don’t we all) but hadn’t had a chance to sit down and listen to it straight through on headphones. having had a few days to digest it, it still hits me just as strongly and is a perfect example of one of my favorite east river pipe tricks - economy. despite going on for three minutes and change, there are just three short verses and no proper chorus.

I said, “I never get used to it.”
like all of my favorite east river pipe songs it takes its time and doesn’t overexplain itself, letting the listener fill in the gaps. i know that i’m filling in the gaps here in a major way (yay angst!) and that’s probably why i can’t stop playing it.
btw - east river pipe is now on twitter, which just seems odd but there you have it.
